Elixir of Life
Here is how I brew "chocolatl"
unsweetened drink called xocoatl… believed to be a health elixir (leave to Honey out)
Boil up 12 ounces of water -- pour into a blender which has --
Ingredients:
6 large Jabenero Chilli Peppers
2 ounces honey
2 table spoons (heaping) Roma Cacoa "powder"
Directions
 Blend thoroughly
Drink in tiny sips -- over at least one hour!!
For the people that may try this -- start with 1/4 of one jabenaro pepper
It takes about two years to "build" up to a real chocolatl drinker!!
A very close equivalent to the real Cocoa is produced in Jamaica and is called: "Roma Cocoa"
According to the nutritional facts printed on the side of the can, Total Fat -- 0
So no fun for the modern Coco "nut"!
Though this product is not the original, it is as close as one can come
Aztec Chocolate or Spanish Chocolate Drink Cacao
Ingredients:
1 ounce unsweetened baking chocolate
1 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cups boiling water
ground pepper of chilies to taste
Aztec Chocolate
Directions
Grate the unsweetened chocolate into a bowl and cover it with a little of the boiling water
Mash the mixture into a paste
Add the rest of the water and vanilla and beat with an electric mixer until frothy
Add the pepper and chilies to liven up the drink
The chocolate will not totally dissolve and will have a grittiness to it. For a more authentic drink let the mixture cool and then beat until frothy and drink.
 Spanish Chocolate
Follow the directions for the Aztec Chocolate omitting the pepper and chilies and add 3 teaspoons of sugar, plus a dash of cinnamon
AD 1200 Aztec Culture
The Aztecs attributed the creation of the cocoa plant to their god Quetzalcoatl who, descended from heaven on a beam of a morning star carrying a cocoa tree stolen from paradise.
In both the Mayan and Aztec cultures cocoa was the basis for a thick, cold, unsweetened drink called xocoatl… believed to be a health elixir.
